China unveils huge investment plan on airports

 

Beijing - CAAC intends to invest heavily on large-scale construction of airports in the next five years

 

China will have 56 new reconstructed airports,16 relocated airports and 91 reconstructed (expanded) airports and China's civil aviation infrastructure investment is expected to reach 425 billion RMB in the next five years, China News reported.

It is said that these airport construction projects will mostly located in the Midwest. According to statistics, about 70% of China's 175 formally navigable operation airports are in losses by 2010.The total loss of all deficit airports is about 1.68 billion RMB. According to the 12th Five Year Plan of the civil aviation, China will continue to promote its airport construction in the next five years, especially to alleviate the large airports capacity problem and actively develop saturated regional airports. The sum of China's transportation airports is expected to reach more than 230 by 2015, with 56 new airports, covered 83% of nationwide population. Additionally, it will form five airport groups: Northern Airport Group with Beijing Capital International Airport as its hub, East Airport Group with Shanghai Pudong airports as its hub, Central South Airport Group with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Southwest Airport Group and Northwest Airport Group.
