News: Spending on Chinese Urban Rail Transit to reach 600 Billion in 2020

During the 11th Five-year Plan period (2006-2010), China will invest CNY200 billion in Urban Metro Transportation constructions to make the total mileage of subway and light rail in Chinese metropolises exceed 1500 km in 2010.

China plans to build 65 urban rail lines with a total length of 1700 km by pouring a huge sum of CNY600 billion into Urban Metro Transportation construction through 2015.

The government has already allocated 600 billion Yuan for rail transit investment in 2009, a 100 percent increase on the 2008 figure. This amount is dwarfed by the 3.5 trillion Yuan which will be injected into the network over the next three years. This massive investment plan will see the country's rail transit network expanded to 12000 km by 2020.

According to the spokesperson of Guangzhou Metro Company, Guangzhou will increase the network by more than 300 kilometers of rail with a total investment of around RMB 150 billion.
